Welcome to IKS

The Institute of Kiswahili Studies, which is now an integral part of the University of Dar es Salaam, is one of the oldest institutions in Tanzania. It was established in 1930 as the Inter-Territorial Language (Swahili) Committee, later known as East African Swahili Committee. Its central aim was to promote the standardization and development of the Kiswahili language.
